Nobel Prize 2020 Winners List

Every year the Nobel Prize was conferred to honor eminent personalities to recognize their outstanding achievements. The Swedish chemist, engineer and industrialist Alfred Nobel instituted the Nobel prizes in 1895. The Nobel price is awarded for 1. Physiology or Medicine, 2. Physics, 3. Chemistry, 4. Literature, 5. Peace and 6. Economic Sciences.

The awards are instituted by the Nobel Foundation based on the recommendations from:

• The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences for the Nobel Prize in Economics, Physics and Chemistry
• Karolinska Institute for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
• The Swedish Academy for Literature
• Committee of five persons elected by the Norwegian Parliament (Storting) for the Peace Prize.

Physiology or Medicine

Harvey Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles Rice shared the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

Drs. Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice on Monday received the prize for their discovery of the hepatitis C virus. The Nobel committee said the three scientists had “made possible blood tests and new medicines that have saved millions of lives.”

Physics

Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez are the recipients of the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2020.

Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez received the prize on Tuesday for their discoveries that have improved understanding of the universe, including work on black holes.

Peace:

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2020 has been awarded to the Nobel Peace Prize 2020 awarded to World Food Programme (WFP). The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the winner for this year's peace prize on Friday at 11:00 am (0900 GMT) at the Nobel Institute in Oslo.

The Nobel Prize Committee took to Twitter to announce the winner: "The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize to the World Food Programme (WFP)."
